Thing 6

Wow, this is soooo cool! I wish I would have known about this a long time ago. But just in time for my daughter's graduation. I can really have fun with some of her senior pictures on flickr. I want to try so many things on there, I just need a few days of just me and my computer time.
I chose this picture of tiny blue blooms because I love taking pictures of flowers in macro. And I need a picture, either taken by myself or now from flickr, for my newly furnished and painted bedroom.
This sight can be really cool for students if they can upload photos, of their own or by searching, onto their own blog for a class assignment. I am amazed more and more at every "thing" that we do and how much could be used in the classroom.

Thing 5

Thing 5 wasn't bad until I got to "Three methods of subscribing" #3. Saving the bloglines button in my favorites under links did not work like the video said it would. I eventually figured it out, but I got pretty frustrated. So the only way that I will know if there are updates on a subscribed blog is I keep checking my bloglines account? I did go on to subscribe to some blogs, so I made it through another thing! Yeah me!

Educationally, I can see how subscribing to blogs would save time so that everything is brought to you instead of continually searching. I haven't quite figured it all out yet, but I can see some benefits if my daughter's teachers started using blogs instead of notebook journals. I'm sure I will continue to think of some other ideas of how blogs will be useful in education.

Thing 4

I can see how bloglines would be very helpful to the teacher: students that blog, parents of a sick student that want the teacher to get updates, or a principal that wants to communicate to staff. But at the same time I can see it being another time zapper while I'm on the computer. I find that it can have pros and cons. I guess I will soon find out how much I like it.

Thing 3

I am really impressed by the way that blogs can be used in the classroom and with colleagues. I can imagine how it would come in handy for the parents in my program to be connected. They could use it to compare experiences with their children with similar diagnoses, recommend doctors, therapy clinics, babysitters and so much more. As teachers to parents, we could post about upcoming events, reminders, class cancellations, etc. There are so many possibilities!

Things 1 and 2

Wow! Do I have a lot to learn. But that's why I am in this class.

I already knew that technology was overtaking our younger generations and leaving many older generations in the dark. I don't consider myself old, but my technology age is well past my chronological age. I have always enjoyed the simple life without technology and have had the fear of being sucked in. I have come to the conclusion that I need to "join them" or truly be left behind and out of the loop. I just prefer to go at my pace. This class may be a challenge for me, but I will revel in the glory of being able to teach my kids something that they didn't even know!!
